South African shoppers open Facebook and Instagram in the same few minutes they check WhatsApp and email. Meta reported 3.60 billion Family daily active people on average for June 2026 in its second quarter 2026 results. Attention at that scale is simple to buy and simple to waste. An account either produces creative worth stopping for, or it spends the month teaching the delivery system nothing useful.
Firewater is a Meta ads agency in Sandton, Johannesburg, buying paid social for retail, FMCG and service brands. We handle account structure, audience strategy, creative production and measurement across both apps, under one budget. This page sits inside our broader paid media practice. The work runs alongside organic social media marketing and daily community management, so paid and owned content never contradict each other. Facebook and Instagram are planned as one buy, because your customer does not think of them separately.
Most accounts we inherit are over-segmented and under-fed. Twenty or thirty ad sets each receive a few hundred rand a day, none of them exit the learning phase, and performance stays flat for months. A Meta advertising agency should be consolidating that structure, feeding the algorithm properly and putting the effort into creative instead. That is where the return on a Meta account is found.
The feed is a hostile place for advertising that looks like advertising. Instagram passed three billion monthly active users, announced by Mark Zuckerberg on Meta’s October 2025 earnings call, and almost all of that consumption happens at speed on a phone. Firewater writes and produces for that reality: sound-off openings, one idea per asset, and the offer visible before the viewer decides to keep scrolling. Concepts are judged by how they hold up on a phone screen held at arm’s length.
We shoot in batches so each campaign launches with several genuine concepts, and our video production team cuts every idea into the placements it needs. Static and video run side by side, because the winner is rarely the format the client expected. Creative refresh runs on a fixed schedule, so the account never goes stale halfway through a flight. When frequency climbs and click-through falls, the replacements are already shot and waiting in the account.
Meta’s targeting is only as good as the data you send back to it. Firewater sets up the pixel and the Conversions API together, so purchases and leads still register when browser tracking is blocked or a cookie is refused. Event quality gets checked in Meta’s own advertising tools before we judge any campaign. A Meta ads agency that skips this step spends the whole flight optimising against incomplete data.
Audience work then gets simpler. Broad prospecting with strong creative does most of the heavy lifting, while retargeting is kept tight and capped so you stop paying to reach people who already bought. Customer lists, catalogue feeds and exclusions are maintained monthly instead of being set up once and forgotten. Poor signal quality is the most common reason a good product looks like a failing campaign.
A test is worth running only when the result can change a decision. Firewater tests one variable at a time, at a budget large enough to reach significance, and records the result somewhere both teams can see it. Meta’s business help documentation sets out how its learning phase works, and we plan test durations around it instead of restarting campaigns every few days. Losing tests get written up as well, because an account learns as much from those.
Profitability gets checked outside the ads manager. Platform-reported return on ad spend is compared against orders in your own system, and the gap between the two is reported honestly. Where the drop-off happens after the click, our conversion optimisation team works on the product page or the checkout. Fixing the destination page usually beats another round of bidding and audience changes.
A Meta ads agency should leave you with an account a new marketing manager could understand in twenty minutes. Naming is consistent, the structure is documented, and every campaign has a stated job. Reporting arrives monthly with commentary on what was tested and what happens next. Access to the ad account, the pixel and every creative asset stays with you permanently.
Firewater has run Facebook and Instagram advertising for brands including Exclusive Books and Cuddlers, one a retailer with a large catalogue and one a consumer product with a defined buying window.
